Perugia Arrive and overnight stay in Perugia in our specially accommodation
DAY 2
Perugia - Assisi Walking time about 5 hours Along this walk Saint Francis explained to Friar Leone what a 'perfect gladness' the ancient magic of, and the very place itself, could teach. Along this stretch lies the route of the 'March for peace' envisioned in 1961 by Aldo Capitini to promote the rights of the weak and of world peace. Departing from the Piazza IV November one traverses Perugia to arrive at the lush green vegetation lined expanse of the River Tevere. Continuing towards Bastia Umbra the walk reaches Santa Maria degli Angeli, the Papal Basilica in which is preserved the Porziuncola.
DAY 3
Assisi - Deruta Walking time about 6 hours The paved road constitutes the original route of Francis which connects the two primary devotional sites of the Saint, the Basilicas of Saint Francis and of Santa Maria of the Angels. This follows the ancient path dating from Francis's time that linked the town of Assisi to the small church at Porziuncola, destined to become part of the pilgrimage route immediately following his death. Deruta is a city known for the production of various types of ceramics, has a fine historical centre and many sites of cultural interest. Of particular interest is the regional ceramics museum which has, among various items on display, the original ceramic tile dated 1594 of Saint Giacomo's Hospital which lay on the via Amerina.
DAY 4
Deruta - Todi Walking time about 6 hours and 30 minutes From Deruta to Todi the path follows the tarred road known as Tiberina which runs alongside the left bank of the Tevere river, following the now vanished ancient path of the via Amerina. However the sights and sensations of the Pilgrims way are still well represented by the sacred buildings and churches that line this road on both sides of the river. Todi is a beautiful city, full of history and monuments. We suggest visits to the Duomo and to the Piazza of the People which is surrounded by the principal medieval town buildings. Among these is the church of San Fortunato where are found the tombs of the Patron of the city, Saint Fortunato, Bishop and Martyr, of another Bishop, Saint Cassiano and of Jacopone of Todi.
